THE CONSERVATION COMMISSION HAS ADOPTED NEW RULES AND REGULATIONS AS OF MARCH 7, 2006.

The Conservation Department coordinates the efforts of the Conservation Commission whose purpose is to administer the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, M.G.L. Ch. 131, s. 40 and the Town of Duxbury Wetlands Protection Bylaw, Chapter 9 and related regulations.  Programs of the department not only include wetland protection but land management and land acquisition.

The Conservation Department is open Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM, or by appointment.  The staff is available to answer questions regarding wetlands and the permitting process and will assist an applicant with completing a permit application.  As part of his responsibilities, the Conservation Administrator reviews each building permit application and Board of Health application to determine if an applicant will need to file for a permit with the Conservation Commission.

Application Filing Deadline:
The Conservation Commission meets approximately every two weeks on Tuesday evenings beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Hall.  In order to get on the agenda for a particular meeting a new application must be submitted to the Conservation Department by noon on the Tuesday, two weeks in advance of a scheduled meeting.  For any continued public hearing, additional information requested by the Conservation Commission must be submitted to the Conservation Department by noon on the Tuesday before the Conservation Commission meeting.

The Town of Duxbury presently owns approximately 2,400 acres of land under the control of the Conservation Commission.  Through its Conservation Fund, the Conservation Department manages and maintains these lands and creates walking trails for public enjoyment.  Walking trail maps are available at the Receptionist Desk at Town Hall, the Conservation Department, and at the kiosks to the entrance of specific properties.
